Insights in History: The “Mighty Fitz”: 50 Years Later

November 5 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EST

Rusty ship Edmund Fitzgerald docked at a calm lake, part of maritime history exhibits at The History Museum.

The Great Lakes are the largest collection of freshwater on Earth. They are beautiful and support all kinds of water sports; however, they hide a dark secret. Since the first boats were placed on the Great Lakes’ waters, there have been wrecks. The best known of around 6,000 shipwrecks is the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior, which happened on November 10, 1975. Learn how the “Mighty Fitz’s” sinking affected shipping throughout the Great Lakes region when Travis Childs will present The “Mighty Fitz”: 50 Years Later. A guided tour of the exhibit Freshwater Fury: Great Lakes Shipwrecks will be offered. Admission is $3/general; $1/members. Reservations are required by November 3.

Historic museum with exhibits showcasing local and national history, culture, and artifacts.
